WAM! Objective
WAM! aims to tap into the burgeoning consumption of manga and anime in India by organizing state-level competitions in 11 cities, culminating in a grand national finale in Delhi. The event seeks to establish a strong platform for creative expression, offering substantial marketing support and opportunities for international recognition.
Participation Verticals
- Manga: Participants create a Japanese style comic (manga) based on a provided script.
- Webtoon: Participants create digital vertical comics from the provided scritp.
- Anime: Participants create a Japanese style animation (anime) sequence based on the provided script.
Participant Categories
- Individual (Student): Open to students from any recognized school, college, or university.
- Teams (Student): Student teams of up to 4 members.
- Individual (Professional): Open to non-student individuals.
- Teams (Professional): Non-student teams of up to 4 members.

Terms & Conditions
- Eligibility: Participation is open to individuals and teams as per the categories outlined.
- Manga and Webtoon: Individual participation for Student and Professional categories.
- Anime: Team participation (up to 4 people) for Student and Professional categories.
- Students must be currently studying in a school or undergrad college (up to 21 years of age). All others must register in the Professional category.
- Participation Guidelines:
- Scripts will be provided on the spot for all categories.
- Participants are required to create and submit their work within the specified time frame and according to the given format:
- Manga (Student & Professional): 2 pages with at least 4 panels each, ink and color (physical/digital).
- Webtoon (Student): 7 panels with ink and color.
- Webtoon (Professional): 10 panels with ink and color.
- Anime (Student): 10 seconds of animation as per the provided script.
- Anime (Professional): 15 seconds of animation as per the provided script.
- Submission Requirements:
- Only Manga category submissions can be in physical format. All other categories require digital submissions.
- Participants are responsible for bringing their own stationary and hardware.
- If you need to rent hardware, reach out to us at least 48 hrs in advance to help you connect with a hardware partner. No additional hardware will be available at the contest.
- Event Participation:
- All competitions will be held offline; participants must be present in person.
- Registration for each event will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by a debriefing at 9:30 AM. The competition will run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
- CosPlay competitions and other performances will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on the same day.
- Identification: Participants must validate their registration with a government-issued ID (e.g., Aadhar card) to ensure a smooth registration process at the event venue.
- Multiple Entries: Participants are allowed to compete in more than one category, provided they can meet the submission requirements for each category.
- Jury and Judging:
- The jury will consist of representatives from MEAI, the state (anime club representative or industry) and the industry.
- All decisions made by the WAM! jury are final and binding.
- Artwork Usage: By participating, you consent to the use of your artwork for promotional purposes by WAM! and associated partners.
- Travel and Accommodation: Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements unless specified otherwise.
- Changes to Event Schedule: All event timings and schedules are subject to change and availability. Participants will be notified of any changes in advance.
- Liability: WAM! is not responsible for any loss, damage, or theft of personal belongings during the event. Participants are advised to take care of their belongings.
- Agreement: By registering for and participating in WAM! events, participants agree to comply with all the terms and conditions outlined above.

MEAI wants to encourage and support the Manga, Webtoons and Anime creator economy with the support of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. We want to enable the best talent to reach the global stage and hence this is being funded by the Ministry of I&B, MEAI and other partners to make the entries free for you.
All WAM! competitions are offline and you need to be present in person. Several constituents of the event such as mentorship, workshops, etc will be online.
Yes. You can participate in any of the listed cities.
All competitors need to validate their participation through a government id. This will help speed up the registration at the venue on the day of the event.
Yes – provided you can submit the requisite output for each category.
Only the MANGA category will accept hard copy submissions.
All participants are required to carry their own stationery.
We expect all participants to bring their own hardware. Those who do not have their own hardware can rent it from WAM! preferred rental partners at discounted prices at their own cost. The rental must be fixed 24hrs prior to the contest. There will be no additional hardware at the contest.
All state level contests will begin registration at 9am followed by debriefing at 9:30am. All contestants will have 8 hrs (10am – 6pm) to complete their works.
All state level CosPlay competitions and performances will be between 6pm and 8pm on the day of the competition. The timing of these is kept after the competition ending time to ensure no disruption to the competitors. All events are subject to change and availability.
There is no age restriction. However, those who are currently studying in a school or undergrad college (upto 21 years of age) can participate in the Student Category. All others will need to register in the Professional Category.
The jury will comprise of 1 representative from MEAI, 1 representative from the state (either partner anime club or from the industry) and 1 representative from the industry.
All contestants are allowed to use their character / background banks. It is encouraged to come ready with turnarounds and rigged characters to save time

WAM! Cosplay Competition Guidelines
I. General Rules:
• Eligibility:
• Open to individuals, including students, staff, and external participants. No registration fees; participation is free.
• Originality:
• Cosplays must be based on characters from anime, manga, gaming or Indian comics.
• Participants are encouraged to showcase creativity and originality.
• Costume and Props:
• Costumes and props should be self-made. No restrictions on craftsmanship level.
• Props and weapons must be non-functional, safe and cleared during the pre-event inspection.
• Decorum:
• Participants must display sportsmanship and respect toward fellow contestants, judges, and organizers.
• Offensive language, gestures, or behavior will lead to disqualification.
II. Judging and Performance Criteria:
• Costume Accuracy: Assessed based on attention to detail and similarity to the character.
• Craftsmanship: Overall construction quality will be considered; no specific regulations on craftsmanship required.
• Performance: Judged on stage presence, acting, and portrayal of the character.
• Creativity: Originality and unique interpretation of the character/theme.
• Audience Engagement: Ability to engage and entertain the audience.
• Interaction Segment: Participants may answer questions about their character or costume construction.
• Time Limit: Each performer has 90 seconds for their performance and 1 minute for introduction and interaction.
• Judging Decisions: All decisions by judges are final.

IV. Terms and Conditions:
By participating, contestants agree to these guidelines. Violation may result in disqualification. Organizers reserve the right to modify rules as needed to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. Participants further agree:
- All selected contestants are responsible for all expenses related to competing in the WAM! Cosplay Contest including all lodging and travel to and from the event
- A contestant may participate in the WAM! Cosplay Contest only once and may not register multiple times with multiple costumes. A contestant can only enter once and only wear one costume.
- No electrical power connections will be provided. If your costume requires power, it must be part of your costume design.
- Contestants are responsible for their own belongings. We are unable to provide a secure area for personal items. We recommend bringing an assistant to help with belongings.
- No nudity. All costumes should provide enough coverage to be worn in public and should be in good taste and appropriate for a family-friendly show. Gore, graphic violence, or other objectionable elements may be grounds for disqualification as determined by the judges.
- Costumes cannot depict, and cannot itself, be in violation of any law.
- No profanity is allowed on stage. That includes messages on signs or clothes. Anyone who violates this may be disqualified from the competition.
- No political or religious statements are allowed on stage or during judging. Anyone who violates this may be disqualified from the competition.
- Costumes cannot promote alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing), any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous, or any particular political agenda or message.
- Costumes cannot be obscene or offensive, or endorse any form of hate or hate group.
- Please refrain from wearing or using any substances that may potentially interfere with another participant’s costume. If you are wearing body paint or make-up, please make sure it will not come in contact with others. Do not leave anything on stage at all.
- Your costume must allow movement with limited assistance. Your costume must not impede your ability to get on and off stage. Furthermore, your costume cannot be built on stage.
- The following items are forbidden at all WAM! events:·
- Functional firearms (including air soft guns, BB guns, cap guns, paintball guns, and pellet guns)
- Realistic replica firearms (including reproduction, fake, or toy guns that can be confused for functional firearms)
- Functional projectile weapons (including blow guns, crossbows, long bows, silly string, slingshots, water balloons, and water guns)
- Sharpened metal-bladed weapons (including axes, daggers, hatches, knives, kunai, shuriken, swords, sword canes and switch blades)
- Explosives(including firecrackers and fireworks)
- Chemical weapons (including mace and pepper spray)
- Blunt weapons (including brass knuckles, bats, clubs and nunchaku)
- Hard prop weapons (including props made of metal, fiberglass, and glass)
- Instruments that cause excessive noise levels like vuvuzelas
- Prop weapons will be allowed providing they are composed of cardboard, foam, or other light materials. Prop firearms are allowed only if they cannot be mistaken for real weapons. The barrel of all prop firearms must be covered with brightly colored caps. Prop bows will be allowed providing all arrows have foam tips and cannot be used to harm anyone.
- We have no limit on the size of costumes or props, but ask that you be safe and aware while onstage. You will be responsible for ALL damage to the stage, lighting, technical aspects, or any event property.

WAM! Voice Acting Competition Guidelines
I. General Rules:
• Eligibility: Open to all individuals, including students, staff, and external participants. Participation is free of charge.
• Source Material: Performances should be based on characters from anime, manga, webtoons or gaming
• Performance Language: Participants may perform in English, Japanese or any Indian language, provided Jury can comprehend the same.
• Decorum: Participants must exhibit professionalism and respect toward fellow contestants, judges, and event organizers. Offensive language or gestures will lead to immediate disqualification.
II. Judging and Performance Criteria:
• Voice Quality: Judges will assess vocal clarity, enunciation, tone, and suitability for the character.
• Characterization: Participants will be judged on how effectively they portray the character’s personality, emotions, and unique traits.
• Emotion and Expression: Judging will consider the range and depth of emotions conveyed and how well the performer embodies the character’s mood.
• Pronunciation and Accent: Pronunciation accuracy and consistency in any chosen accent or dialect will contribute to the score.
• Audience Engagement: Ability to captivate and connect with the audience through voice modulation and storytelling.
• Time Limit: Each performance will have a maximum duration of 2 minutes, with an additional 1 minute for an optional character introduction.
• Judging Decisions: All decisions by judges are final and cannot be contested.
III. Prizes:
• Top 3 performers will receive cash prizes.
• All participants will be awarded certificates of participation.
